Getting to know Sondra

Have you
ever felt sad when you left an opera because you related SO
much with the plot/characters? This is the feeling I am having right
now leaving the character and music of Rusalka. The production that
we just did in Bilbao was the most visually stunning production I
have ever seen of Rusalka.
But, now I am back in New York working on Rosalinda from Die Fledermaus
for the Metropolitan Opera. What a complete change - from Dvorak to
Strauss! The first performance is on December 19th and we are also
doing the New Year's Eve Gala this year. Would love to see you all
there.

We are
now in Bregenz, Austria for most of the summer. What a beautiful part
of the world it is here! Last night we had the first rehearsal with
costumes for Robert Carsen's new Trovatore on the famous Bodensee
"Floating Stage". The concept is that Count di Luna owns an Oil Refinery
and Manrico and the gypsies are rebel warriors just trying to co-exist
on the Oil Refinery. Above is a picture of the stage...

Thank
you all for your great reception and support for the Cyrano
at the Met. What a great opportunity it has been working on an opera
that not too many people know. At first, I was a little unsure of
the opera. But as the weeks of rehearsal went on, I grew to really
love the music as well as the story. And now that the performances
are over for this year, I get sad thinking I will not be close to
Roxane for another 6 months.
I hope all of you who were able to see and hear the performances were
as excited about it as I was. My life dream was to sing a leading
lady with Placido Domingo and he made that dream come true for me
this past week. What an amazing performer and human being!
Looking forward to singing on the Tebaldi Tribute on Monday May 23rd
and seeing all of you there too. After that we are on to Bregenz,
Austria for a new production of Trovatore. Happy summer to you all!

Once again,
writing from New York City and am VERY excited about the Final Dress
Rehearsal of Vespri tomorrow morning. Boy, does 11am seem VERY early
when you have to sing Elena. And a little birdie told me that there
may be an optional high note taken at the end of the Bolero.
You all will just have to come to the show and see/hear for yourselves.
